To present its capabilities and projects and discuss how they relate to industry needs, Puerto Antofagasta welcomed representatives of the “Invertir en Antofagasta” business mission. Organized by the French-Chilean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI France-Chili), the initiative seeks to connect the region’s needs with companies that can contribute expertise and solutions.
The meeting, led by Puerto Antofagasta’s General Manager, Carlos Escobar Olguín, addressed the company’s contribution to strengthening the region’s position as a logistics hub and a platform for international integration. From this perspective, complementary maritime and landside infrastructure is essential to connecting port operations with the services required by regional industries.
Against this backdrop, the company presented the expansion of the Molo de Abrigo breakwater, aimed at improving maritime operating conditions; the development of the Zona de Desarrollo Logístico La Negra; and the modernization of the Antepuerto Portezuelo. These initiatives seek to strengthen capacity to serve vessels, provide logistics services, and store and handle cargo.
The discussion also provided an opportunity to learn about the specific needs of participating companies. Pascal Guasp, President of Micr’eau, a company specializing in water treatment and renewable energy, highlighted the importance of port connectivity in supplying its operations: “For us, it would be an advantage to be able to import water treatment plants and containers of filter media directly through the port of Antofagasta.”
The visit concluded with a tour of the facilities, giving participants a firsthand view of port operations and the infrastructure supporting cargo movements. The tour complemented the discussion about the port’s role in bringing in equipment and supplies for industry, linking business needs with the services and projects presented during the meeting.
