Puerto Antofagasta welcomed third-year secondary school students from Colegio Técnico Industrial Don Bosco Antofagasta as part of its Academic Visits Program. The visit aimed to introduce them to port activities and their connection to the regional economy.
The day began with a welcome breakfast and a presentation on the port’s work, operations and projects. The students then toured the facilities, where they saw some of the activities carried out daily at the port.
Joaquín Rojas, a third-year student specializing in electrical studies, valued the opportunity to get an inside look at the city’s port industry. “The whole experience has been very educational because it helped me learn things I didn’t know before. It was also rewarding to discover and learn more about what Puerto Antofagasta offers and what it has planned for the future,” he said.
Nicolás Chía, the school’s communications officer, highlighted the value of these experiences at a stage when young people are beginning to explore the world of work. “It is important for students to take part in technical visits because they are beginning to discover what the workplace is like. These experiences allow them to learn about the kinds of companies they could work for, ask questions and see how their areas of study connect with the world of work,” he explained.
Through these visits, Puerto Antofagasta opens its facilities to the region’s education community and seeks to help students connect their technical and vocational education with the opportunities and challenges of local industry.
